Bacillus Egens. a New Pathogenic Anaerobe

چکیده

The bacillus described in this paper occurred in a fatal case of gas gangrene. The cultures were derived from infected muscle at a considerable distance from the wound surface, and no other anaerobes were present in the muscle. The bacillus proved markedly pathogenic for guinea pigs, producing extensive muscle lesions from which pure cultures of the bacillus were always obtained. Thus there is good proof that the bacillus found was the responsible agent in the fatal human case. Morphologically the similarity of the bacillus to Bacillus welckii is marked. Its cultural reactions are such that in a mixed culture with Bacillus welchii it would escape notice, unless the most careful plating were done. When it has once been isolated, however, it is culturally and pathologically distinct.

Electrochemical recognition and quantification of cytochrome c expression in Bacillus subtilis and aerobe/anaerobe Escherichia coli using N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-para-phenylene-diamine (TMPD).

The colorimetric identification of pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria in cell culture is commonly performed using the redox mediator N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-para-phenylene-diamine (TMPD) in the so-called oxidase test, which indicates the presence of bacterial cytochrome c oxidases. The presented study demonstrates the ability of electrochemistry to employ TMPD to detect bacteria and quantify ...

First described case of prosthetic joint infection with Clostridium disporicum.

An orthopedic hardware infection with Clostridium disporicum is described. C. disporicum is a gram positive anaerobic bacillus which can contain two subterminal spores. C. disporicum had not previously been reported in musculoskeletal infections. Gram stains demonstrating gram positive bacilli with two subterminal spores should alert practitioners to the possibility of C. disporicum infection.

The ability of marine Bacillus spp. isolated from fish gastrointestinal tract and culture pond sediment to inhibit growth of aquatic pathogenic bacteria

In this research, antagonistic activity of two Bacillus species isolated from digestive tract of marine fish and culture pond of sea cucumber was studied. The inhibitory activity of Bacillus spp. isolates against some common pathogenic bacteria of fish was assessed using the agar diffusion method. The strain of B. subtilis G024 exhibited antimicrobial activity against Vibrio anguillarum, V. har...
